iOS 18 Update: On September 24, 2023, Android Authority examined various new and refinements features in the latest iOS 16.5 as they apply to the iPhone platform. As an explanatory note, this update was made prior to the announcement of the iPhone 16 and covered various changes in the Home Screen, Control Center, Messages, and Photos applications.
Top Features of the iOS 18 Update
Home Screen and Control Center Customization
With iOS 18, users now have more customization options for the Home Screen. You can arrange app icons and widgets more flexibly, placing them anywhere on the screen. Additionally, users can enlarge icons or remove app names entirely. The update also introduces color tinting, allowing users to apply custom colors to apps and widgets or get recommendations based on the wallpaper.
The Control Center has also seen improvements. You can group controls, resize them, and even add controls from third-party apps, making it more personalized.
Messages App Updates (iOS 18 Update)
iOS 18 brings exciting updates to the Messages app. Users can now format text in bold, underline, strikethrough, or italics, adding more depth to conversations. Moreover, new Tapback reactions include emojis and stickers, making chats more expressive.
One of the standout features is RCS support, enhancing the quality of photos and videos and providing delivery and read receipts, even when messaging non-iPhone users.
Passwords App
A new Passwords app is introduced with iOS 18, making it easier to manage and access your saved passwords. The app also supports setting up two-factor authentication codes for added security.
Photos App Enhancements
The Photos app has been redesigned, allowing users to organize their library into collections based on topics. These collections can be pinned or customized. A new filter button lets you view photos by type, favorites, and other preferences, making it easier to find specific images.
Apple Intelligence Coming in iOS 18.1
Though Apple Intelligence isn’t included in the initial iOS 18 rollout, it will be available in the upcoming iOS 18.1 update. This AI-powered feature will assist with tasks like writing emails, searching files, and creating Genmojis (AI-generated emojis).
